After defeating Takeda Kanryū’s guards, Kenshin and Sanosuke discover that Kanryu is protected by the last members of the Oniwabanshū group. Since knowing this, Kenshin decides to be the guard of Megumi, but in the same day they are attacked by a member of the Oniwabanshū called Hyottoko. Sanosuke is able to defeat him with the help of Kenshin, but Megumi is attacked by the other member Beshimi. Yahiko protects her, receiving the attack but Megumi is able to heal him. She decides to escape since she created a few time ago stronger version of the opium, but Kenshin and Kaoru ask her to stay in the dojo. Feeling guilty about the deaths she caused, Megumi goes to the mansion of Kanryū in order to kill him but she ends kidnapped. Kenshin, Sanosuke and Yahiko decide to rescue her and they enter to the mansion. The volume ends with the second chapter of Rurouni Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story.
