Saitō fights against the 2nd strongest Juppongatana, “Blind Sword” Uonuma Usui, while Kenshin and Sanosuke go to fight the remaining soldiers. Although Usui claims that he wants to kill Shishio, who left him blind during the Bakumatsu, Saitō discovers that he is saying that as an excuse to avoid destroying his pride. As Saitō overpowers and kills Usui, Kenshin finds Aoshi. Kenshin then proceeds to fight Aoshi, and although both remain tied, Kenshin makes Aoshi realize that the deceased Oniwabanshū did not want him to have such a sad life. Kenshin and Aoshi then proceed to perform their strongest techniques, and the former manages the fight using the Amakakeru Ryū No Hirameki without killing the latter.
