Kenshin continues training with Hiko, but he is unable to learn the technique. For this reason, Hiko attempts to kill Kenshin to make him learn it by instinct. Kenshin learns the strongest technique from the style, Amakakeru Ryū No Hirameki, but he almost kills Hiko when performing it. After Hiko recovers, Kenshin returns to Kyoto, where he meets Saitō and Sanosuke. He is told that Shishio plans to burn Kyoto, but Kenshin realizes that the fire is just a distraction to escape from Kyoto in order to attack the Meiji government. While Kenshin, Saitō and Sanosuke head to fight Shishio, the Oniwabanshū avoid Shishio’s soldiers to burn Kyoto. Using several bombs, Sanosuke destroys Shishio’s ship, forcing Shishio to retreat.
